CD Review: Wah! - The Goddess of Yoga-Pop
Wah! is the legal first name of the band's leading vocalist, bassist, and harmonium player. The music of Maa is inspired by Hindu Tantrism with Sanskrit and English vocals, modern beats, and Tantric imagery, including the Sri Yantra on the album's cover. A frequent performer at Yoga festivals across the country, Wah! performs anything but sleepy, spaced-out rhythms and chants. This is yoga pop at it's best. Wah!'s voice is somewhere between Sade and Sarah McLachlan. The music borders on dance, downtempo, and roots-pop. If you are looking for music with inner and outer beauty, then listen to the goddess of Yoga pop. Your soul will thank you kindly. The liner notes include Sanskrit and English lyrics with song descriptions. (reviewed by Matthew Forss)

New Age Retailer/Bellingham, WA “Fun” may not be the first word most people associate with chant music, but that’s the best way I can describe Wah!’s latest CD, Maa. How else can one categorize chant music that openly parades musical influences from funk, hip-hop, rhythm and blues, lounge, and trance? Drop this delightful album in your in-store sound system, go to track two, “Shakti,” and clear your aisles, because when Wah! starts to rap the story of how she discovered chant, your customers are gonna get their groove on. This is a “real” chant album, just dressed up for a Saturday night downtown. Hey, chanters can party too, right? October 2010 (reviewed by Bill Binkelman)

Elevated Existence/Elmwood Park, NJ
Yoga music legend Wah! (whose name means "bliss beyond description") introduced her latest album "Maa," a blend of new age and electronic beats and spoken-word, which follows the success of her "Love Holding Love" album. while in the past her sound has been more mystical and relaxing, this CD incorporates dance beats that will get the listener moving and energized. Tracks include the popular "Love Holding Love," as well as "Shanti," "Ganga Ma (Everlasting Love)" and "Stay in the Love." Having traveled to Europe, India and AFrica, she incorporates different spiritual traditions and teachings into her music and lyrics to create a mix of reggae, Hindu chanting and pop. September 2010

LA Yoga Magazine/Los Angeles, CA
Internationally known devotional sacred music singer Wah! ‘s latest album Maa takes her music to new levels with kirtan grooves penetrating deep into the archetypal manifestations of ma energy. Wah! has an original style of integrating love chants sung in Sanskrit with celestial electronic patterns fused with some deeply devotional English lyrical offerings sung in rhyme that keep the nectar flowing. Wah!’s uniqueness in the spiritual music scene is undeniable and her devotion carries the spirit using rhythm to accompany her experienced vocal inflections. The album was produced by Wah! and masterfully recorded and mixed by keyboardist Paul Hollman who captures this angel’s spirit with just the right turns on the knobs. I personally believe this is one of Wah!’s finest albums because the compositions are grounded in grace, forgiveness and self-sacrificial themes while the music moves through the universe with authenticity and finely tuned radiance. Like everything else Wah! offers to the Divine Mother in us all, Maa is another chapter in a career that blesses all of us who respect, honor and love her seva. (Reviewed by Michael R. Mollura)

Fan Reviews

Emily Canibano/Chicago, IL I decided to give Wah!'s new CD MAA a whirl while teaching last week's Monday night Power Yoga. I absolutely loved the Invocation, it made the perfect backdrop for centering and grounding. This CD would be perfect for yoga, running, biking, in the car - I have taken it with me everywhere and love it. It is a versatile enough for anyone to enjoy; in fact the song Love Holding Love sounds mainstream enough to be heard on the radio. 5/6/10

Astrid/Toronto, CANADA Thanks to Wah for the new album I purchased recently.  I did not get to theToronto concert last month so decided to at least buy your album.  Through your music I feel I am receiving love and hope, out of some dark psychic times into more lightheartedness.    As your words say, "My heart was dying like a flower at the end of a vine I was losing ground, leaving the past behind"... and "You will find your way, who am I to say? only your heart can guide you."  Thanks Wah for passing on the vibration of the Mother!  5/1/10

I've been playing your new CD in all my yoga classes and students are loving it; from the epic groove of Shanti, to the soaring vocals of jagat ambe, to the heart breaking melody of Lalitamba coupled with that chillin heartbeat-like bass, to the tender soul lullaby Om Sri Matre....Iovin it so much!! 4/23/10

Rachel/Tucson, AZ Your new CD brings me to my knees!!!  Bravo.  I absolutely love it.  I currently cannot stop listening to Parashakti chant - it renders me speechless.  Thank you so much for again and again helping me find my heart center and the overwhelming love therein. 4/22/10

Kailas/Los Angeles
I spent the day listening to your cd and read through all the lyrics. I think it’s a major achievement, because it blends a deeply autobiographical set of songs with music that is an extreme departure stylistically from kirtan music – while still presenting an evolving tableaux of rasa and esthetic mellows. The vocals are crystal clear, and the use of powerful bija mantras really integrates with rapping and use of vocal effects. The influence of Kraftwerk is also clearly present in terms of minimalist electronica.
Really a huge evolution of sacred music in the East/West paradigm. 4/7/10
